Literature Text

I stare up at the dark night sky
The stars twinkling like crystal
Fragile little pinpoints of light
Looking like they're in danger
Of falling to the earth
The moon makes the sky ablaze
With white
The clouds encircling it outlined
In ghostly shadows
A planet shines like a star
In the distance
A comet streaking across its surface
Its light dying
A fiery trail
The only remnant
Of its hurried journey
And I wonder how something so beautiful
Could be so untouchable
Like a trophy in a glass case
With all eyes upon it
Untouched by dust
Or the fingerprint of man
I long to go up there
To hold a star
Small enough
To fit in the palm of my hand
To touch the moon
And circle Saturn
Creating new rings on my way.
I wrote this recently, this is a follow-up to the poem featured here. By follow-up, I mean that my first one inspired me to do a better one.
